Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

New Home

My husband owns a lot (no mortgage), which he purchased while we were dating. We are now married (no pre-nup) and are planning to build a house on the lot. We were approved for the loan on the house and went to the closing today. Once there, my husband was given the Settlement Statement to sign, then the Mortgage, and then we were given the Promissory Note. My name isn't on the Mortgage (which I didn't know about until I got there), but is on the Promissory Note, which is around $400,000. I am 55 years old and this isn't my first marriage. I don't feel comfortable signing the Promissory Note knowing that I will have no ownership in the house. Can you please advise me as to what should I do?

Thanks so much.

Re: New Home

Don't sign unless your name is on the mortgate. He owns the lot but you should both own the house on the lot.
