Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
My landlord has not paid mortgage, taxes or insurance on the property I rent for the past 10 months. I have paid these to the bank that issued the mortgage in order to avoid foreclosure on the property since it is my home, although I do not own it. Is there a way that I can assume the mortgage legally and own the property? The landlord moved out of state (with no forwarding address) 10 months ago, and has made no legal claims on the property.

You would have to possess the property by living there for 30 years. Paying someone else's taxes and bills is not something I would recommend. If you let the state lien the property and sell it at tax sale, you could buy it at tax sale.
