Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

Landlord's Rights

I own a home that I inherited from my father. My father was letting a couple rent the house while they built their own. Now, two years afetr they have been renting and a year and a half after my father's death I want to sell the house. I notified the tenants on June 25, 2001 that I wanted to start listing the house in August and they needed to move. It is now August 20, and they have not left. I told them I would give them the time they need to move, but I am going to list the house. For the past twenty days several people want to see the home through my real estate agent but they won't let them in, and threaten to call the police if they come in. I am four hours away so I cannot go open it myself. What are my rights in this situation, and can I force them to let potential buyers in? Please give me a prompt answer on this.

Re: Landlord's Rights

Do they have a lease? If so you have to comply with the lease. If no lease you can give them the proper notice and evict them. If you are 4 hours away you may want to hire an attorney to evict them for you.
