Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

If someone has left a piece of personal property with me, (EX: a drumkit worth $500-$700); for over four years and has made no physical attempt to retrieve it; do I become the legal owner of the property at any point? Also, suppose during that four year period, I spent money on the upkeep of that property. Does that have any effect?

You never "become the legal owner" without a court saying so.
