Louisiana Property Rights and Surviorship
Hello, I have a question about Louisiana state property rights. My grandmother owned a property in Louisiana, and has since passed away. Out of their children, there is only 1 survivor, and that is my mother. There are n2 other siblings of my grandmother that has passed away, but they have children. My mother is looking to sell the property. Since my mother is the sole surviving child of my grandmother, does my mother retain all rights and potential profits on the sale of the property in Louisiana?

Did your grandmother have a will? A succession proceeding will have to be conducted to place your grandmother's heirs in possession of the property before it can be sold.

Children can rise up and take on the level of their parents vis-a-vis their parent's siblings. So there is a good chance that your mother is not the only person with an interest in the property.
