Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
My mother sold her part of a property that was given to her and her sister by their mother. However, a land survey to divide the land was never done. The person who purchased the land, stole it from my mother, however I don't believe that land sale was done properly because the land was never surveyed. The buyer later tried to sue my mother's sister to also sell her land to him, because the land is in one big parcel and not divided. Personally, it seems that the sale was never valid, because there is still a question of what land is one sisters and what is the other sisters. The land now is worth millions, the buyer paid 500 per acre and took advantage of my mother. Who even used her maiden name to sell the land, eventhough she had a different name. I believe that there must be a way to right this wrong, or simple act of stupidity on my mother's part.

The sale may be invalid. It is also possible this person bought your mother's undivided interest in the land, which would mean that the sale is valid, but a court still needs to partition the property. Just having a survey done would not be enough. A court would have to approve the partition. You need to talk to a property attorney and have all of the title reviewed. If you do not know one, or do not know anyone who can recommend one to you, call a local title agency. They have property attorneys on staff.
