Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
Property laws
I recently purchased a home last week March 9, 2007, but the previous owner has not turned over the keys yet. Now she and I had a verbal agreement that she would vacate at an agreed date but it seems like she is avoiding me and I can't get in touch with her. What can we do can how long from the point of sale does the previous owner have to vacate, we have no written agreement saying she could stay longer. Would I have to go through a civil sheriff to have her produce the keys? Can I charge her rent from the time of sale until now?

Re: Property laws
You may have to evict her if she refuses to move out by the date she agreed to. Contact your local justice of the peace to find out what the process is in your parish. The first step is usually to send a certified letter with return reciept requested, requesting that she vacate immediately.
