Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

i have a signed legal contract to buy a piece of property. the sellar says the title has a lien on it and has to cancel the sale.do i have to take his word or can i demand written proof that there is a lien on the title

A lien will be filed in the mortgage and conveyance files of the clerk of court in the parish where the property is located. The clerks will help you research it and provide certified copies.
