tenant rights

I leased a house on march 15, 2001 paying 975.00 and the house is in horrible condition did not realize when i signed the lease, the roof leaks all in the living room and bathrooms they still have not came out to fix i want to move but i signed a 1 year lease. This house is not worth the money i am paying

In exchange for your payment of a certain amount a month, you have a right to a dwelling fit for the purpose it was leased. In this case, a place to live. Your lease should point out that fact, but if not, equity demands that understanding. You can have the problems fixed and deduct the cost from future payments, or you may terminate the lease. Just as they can evict you for failure to pay, you can leave for their failure to provide you with a suitable premises. However, do not take this answer as gospel, consult an attorney.
