Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
I was working for my landlord up until recently doing maintenance, repair, and restoration on her other properties in the area. She had said that she would barter rent for my services. Mid-December I ended up being witness to a very shading deal she was involved in. The day after it happened, I tried to get a hold of her to see about what was going on with the rest of the work she asked me to do and never got a response back. I tried repeatedly through the month of December to get in touch with her but never got anything back. I paid rent on the December 31st since I assumed our working relationship was over. Then on January 11th she texted me saying that she not only did not get the rent payment for January, but I also owed her for December rent. When I asked about our agreement she informed me that if I could not give her the money before tomorrow she was giving me an eviction notice. What legal rights do I have?

If there is no written lease agreement or witnesses to the side agreement, then it is month to month and you can be evicted at the landlords pleasure. There should be 30 days notice if rent is paid.
