Legal Question in Social Security Law in Louisiana
Social Security Income and Gambling addictions
My 71 yr. old mother has a gambling addiction. She is about to be without a vehicle or home. Can the children step in and have her surviving spouse social security benefits put in our names so that we can make sure her bills are paid, and she is not neglecting her health, etc. She also receives a pension from my fathers retirement. Any help you can give with this matter will be greatly appreciated. Also, if we can have her sign power of attorney over to us (if she would be willing to get help) would that mean that we would have control over her assets, money being received, etc.?

Re: Social Security Income and Gambling addictions
I suggest you consult an attorney in your area about having her interdicted. If she is interdicted, this will give her guardian control over her finances.
