A "collection" company is calling stating that I have 3 days to pay a 1992 Louisana Income Tax Assessment or they will garnish my bank accounts? Is this even possible after 18 years? I am a resident of Texas and have never lived in La. I did use my mother's address in La for my mail (she and my dad retired there) while I was in the Persian Gulf in the late 1980's, early 1990's.

Most debts have a 3 year prescriptive period. This does not include taxes owed. However, it is news to me that the State is using collection agencies. The state has the authority to seize assets for monies owed. You should be able to find out by checking the Louisiana revenue offices'website or by calling them directly.
