Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana

accident

On Metairie Rd there is a turning lane near Bonnebel Blvd. I was going east waiting to enter the turn lane. there is a solid yellow line until you are about 50 ft from the intersection which the yellow line opens up to allow you to enter to make the approach for a left turn. I came to that opening with my blinker on. No one was in that lane, as i went into the lane another vehicle came from behind gunning his engine, using the lane as a driving lane. He did not get to the open, or break in the yellow line as I was the 1st one at the line. when he gunned to the side of me he clipped me in the l/ft. with his rt. rear. i received the the ticket. the officer said anyone can enter & drive the entire length of the lane as a driving lane. However, at one corner it is to allow you to turn left on Bonnebel & on the opposite corner it allows the west bound traffic to enter to turn left on the side street!! i suspect that the officer is wrong when he said the new law allows you to drive up this lane in this manner. should i fight the ticket?

Re: accident

I would not pay the ticket uncontested. That is an admission of fault and a guilty plea. It will evenm cause you problems if the other guy sues you. Contest it or negotiate it with the prosecutor.
