Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana
Hello, I received a speeding ticket in Louisiana for doing 86 in a 70 mph zone. I live in Colorado and my license is there. What will happen if I do not pay the ticket? My understanding is that Colorado does not transfer out of state tickets. My intention would be to not pay Louisiana and never return to Louisiana. Will this still affect my driving record elsewhere?

There are multi-state agreements for the enforcement of traffic citations between states. It is possible for a Louisiana citation to cause a Colorado license to be revoked. In the long run, it is easier to pay the ticket.
Even though you are not a Louisiana resident, the ticket will be reported under your Colorado driver's license. The ticket will almost certainly follow you to Colorado and cause you problems when you go to renew your license. Also, it will be reported to your insurance company as a moving violation if you either do nothing or just pay it (which is pleading guilty). That will make your insurance go up (and stay up for several years).
I would recommend fighting the ticket and protecting your driving record. Most traffic court attorneys can represent you without your being here and can probably keep the ticket off your insurance record for you. I represent people in traffic court in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. The cost of representation is not that high for speeding tickets.
There are likely attorneys from every parish on this site. The cost of representation is well worth it for insurance purposes. Send an email to an attorney from the parish you were ticketed in and get a quote. It won't cost you anything to get a quote.
