Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana

reckless operation

i was at a red light behind another car when it turned green the car in front of me did not go, so i went to the left lane and passed him. i accelerated the speed limit on that street is 45mph i was going maybe about 55, it seems the officer was pacing. right after that the officer stopped me, keep in mind i have a kia spectra!!! he said i was going 70mph explain what happened? i tried but the officer didn't it allow me to continue and said that i was driving between cars improperly and speeding more than 70 mph. i tried tried to say i was sorry and asked for a warning, but he wouldn't listen. at first I thougt he was going to give me speeding ticket but he gave me reckless driving ticket and he said that he is primarily giving it to me because its mardi gras and there has been an increase in violations.

i have court next week i have never been to court before so i dont know what to do some people tell to plead guilty and others tell not guilty. since i think shouldnt have got that ticket in the first place what do you think i should do?

Re: reckless operation

If you feel that you are wrongly accused, you should fight the ticket. Careless Operation is a very serious charge--second only to DWI. Your insurance company may even cancel your policy if you plead guilty or are found guilty. If it were me, I would find an attorney that practices in that traffic court and fight it.
