Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana

Reducing Amount of Traffic Fines

I was given a ticket for speeding (70 MPH in a 55 MPH zone) and also given a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. The state trooper gave me a court date only one month away. I am a college student and can't afford to pay the entire $402 dollar fines in only one month. Is it at all possible to speak to the judge or anyone else about getting the fines reduced in price? If so, do I wait until my court date to ask the judge, or is their someone that I could speak to before then? What if I show up at my court date and say I can't afford the full amount? Would I go to jail?

Contact the District Attorney's Office in the parish where you got the ticket. Discuss it with the people there. Some, but not all, parishes are friendly about amending tickets. They are all willing to give an extension of time if you ask early enough.
