Legal Question in Traffic Law in Louisiana

Traffic Ticket Court Date

I received a speeding ticket 8/25/07 for speeding (75 in a 65mph zone). On the hard copy of the ticket, the Court Appearance Date is 10/24/07; however, I received a letter in today's mail stating that I failed to appear on my arraingment date of 9/24/07. Now, they are wanting to fine me $450.00 and the original fine is $166.00. This ticket was issued by the Urania Police Dept. in LaSalle Parish. Does the court date on the ticket take precedence over the court date in the letter?

Re: Traffic Ticket Court Date

You need to go into court immediately, because they may issue a warrant for your arrest (they may have even done so already). That being said, foul-ups like that are not uncommon. All you need to do is to bring the ticket showing 10/24/07 into court with you and show it to the City Attorney or DA. They will take the late fee off and allow you to either pay the original fine or plead not guilty and obtain a trial date. I cannot stress enough, though, that you need to do this immediately.
