First Born Daughters rights
My father was a US citizen who was serving in the UK during the war. He returned to the US after the war and we were not reuntited until approx 15 years ago. Unfortunately we lost touch again as his new family resented me. I have just been informed that regretably he has died. My fathers family in the US will have nothing to do with me but my father informed me both verbally and in writing that I would be left a share of his estate. I have not been contacted by the immediate family and unfortunately I am unlikely to be told of the existance of a will. Could you please ley me know whether it is possible to find out whether I am entitled to anything and if so how would I go about it

You could possibly check the probate records of the court house of the parish inn which he died. If there is a successionn onn file, you could contactn the attorney who handled the succession.

I am assuming that he died a Louisiana resident.
There are three possibilities. If you are over 23 years old and in good physical and mental health and he wrote a will, then the will controls what you inherit.
If you are under 23 years old or are disabled, then you are a forced heir and probably cannot be disinherited.
If he wrote no will then you are his heir and should insert yourself into any succession proceeding as you should inherit your portion of the estate.
