Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

My cousin died without a will and I was the closest living relative. He was married and had no children, but the wife had a previous child. His wife died before him and he never adopted the child but raised her as his own. The child is grown already. Does she have any entitlement to property that was awarded to me? She lives in one of the homes and is now claiming she is entitled to keep this home for herself because she paid one year of taxes of $500. but was paid back and her name was put on the title at the tax office.

Well, the Judgment of Possession in the succession says who owns what. If the house she is claiming was "sold" for unpaid taxes and it was not "redeemed" within 3 years, then she may in fact own it. However, if you paid the taxes owed in the tax sale to her within the 3 years, then you should own it again, IF you filed the necessary "redeemed" paperwork. If you did not, you still have an argument for ownership but it's now time to see an attorney. If the girl only paid taxes for one tax year without it being sold for taxes by the Sheriff, then she has no right to the property and you must have the assessor remove her name as owner. Get a lawyer if the property is worth something.
