Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

My daughter is about to turn 18 and is due to inherit a substancial amount of money from a life insurance that her father left her. She is a junior in high school and lives at home with me. My concern is that because there was not a trust set up for her that she's going to have full access to this money and is not mature enough to handle it. She'll be 18 years old, but because she's in school, I'm considered her guardian, I would like to see the money invested until she's 21 years old, Do I have any say in the matter?

At 18, she is an adult for legal purposes. Counsel and advise from a financial advisor could be of benefit to her and perhaps, she would listen to them.

Unless you can reason with her, or you have a Judge declare her incapable of handling her own affairs, you will have to depend on the values and common sense you taught her and hope she remembers them. Don't sell her short, she may be way ahead of you.
