Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

My deceased godmother (not blood related) bequeathed real estate to me in New York, through her will, over 30 years ago. She had no children. Might I be entitled to current unclaimed funds in her name that are now held by the State of Louisiana?

If she made you her only heir and you were placed in possession of her entire estate then most probably yes.

I assume you were not the only person to get a bequeath from her. Since you are not a blood relative, you probably are not entitled to anything, however, hire an attorney in LA or go to the succession attorney in NY and see what they think. Knowing LA unclaimed property sources pretty well, I cannot see where it is worth much money.
