Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Am I entitled to get a copy of a will that my recently deceased uncle had prepared if I am a beneficiary of a lamp in that written will? Is it appropriate for the law firm that is handling that will to tell me not to telephone to ask for a copy of that will because it is taking money out of the estate when I call and that the will is public record and I am not entitled to anything more than that lamp because that's all that I was in the will? Can I sue the law firm if it will not provide me with a copy of the will and I'm a named beneficiary of a lamp?

I answered a much shorter version of this earlier. If the will is public record, then that means the succession has been filed. Call the clerk of court in the Parish where you Uncle lived/died, or where you would expect the succession to be opened, and ask if there is a succession of your uncle opened. You can go there and look at it and make copies of anything that was filed. You will be thrown out of court trying to get a copy from the law firm when the original has been filed.
