Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

My father-in-law has never divorced my mother-in-law although they have not lived together in about 35 to 40 years. They did get a legal seperation. He has sent my mother-in-law monthly checks to help with her support since her retirement. They have two children (both in their 60's)

My father-in-law has had a girlfriend for most of the period he has been seperated (he has bought her a house down the street from him.

Does she have an right to his property when he dies. It is not known if he has a will or not.
