Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

How may I find out the value of an estate in which I was named beneficiary?

My eldest brother and his wife had no children, so they named me, as his youngest sister, and her youngest sister as their heirs. He died many years ago and she has just recently died at age 93. I would like to find out if there is an inheritance due me. She has been out of contact with our family and with her family in Louisiana.

Contact a lawyer, knowledgeable in probate law, in the parish where your sister-in-law lived, and see if there's a will. If so, you or your sister-in-law's sister will have to file the will for probate. If not, the lawyer should know how to file the estate in probate where there is no will.

Get the will and contact a lawyer. You can investigate and inventory the estate
