Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Inheritance Rejection

My father previously passed away leaving his estate to 5 children. The executor(one of the children) of the estate is not filing a cessation and I need to know how to legally remove myself from the situation. I want to reject my portion of the inheritance. How do I do this?

Re: Inheritance Rejection

You do this by a legal process called renunciation. You can renounce your interest in favor of another person or persons, or you can just renounce your interest in your father's estate.

You have to be careful, though. If you just renounce, then your interest passes as if you had died before your father. Your interest may pass to your children, or to your siblings, if you have no children.

You should seek legal advice before making a decision on what to do.
