In Louisiana, why would someone use an affidavit of death and heirship to file a will instead of using a death certificate?

A death certificate proves only that a person died, and when. The ADH is used to prove death, residence, and who the decedent's legal heirs are.

A death certificate must be files also. The Affidavit of Death and Heirship indicates at the time of death the decease's marital history, lists all children born or adopted by the deceased, whether any of the children are deceased and the decease's city, parish and state of residency.
