Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Missing or presumed dead

We have a brother that is missing due to the flooding in New Orleans where he resides. He has no wife, no children, only a brother. We are not sure if he has a will. He has his only brother as a beneficiary on his insurance. What do we need to do if he is found deceased? He has property, stocks, bonds, etc.? His home is probably destroyed but there are two lots. His retirement income is from UNO where he worked 31 years. He has no social security benefits. We know bits and pieces of information on his portfolio and numbers to his accounts. Thank you for any help in this matter.

Re: Missing or presumed dead

Unless his body is found, the presumption of death requires a seven-year wait. Don't jump the gun on this.

If he is found to be dead, you'll need to contact an attorney that practices in your brother's parish.
