Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Oleographic will

I know that La. law is kind of wacky, am hoping that you are familiar with it. I need to know if Oleographic wills are legal in La. If so, then what? Should it be filed at the courthouse, or just give my children copies which they would take to the probate atty. when the time comes? Is there any way I can mess it up? Question #2, How can I begin to transfer some assets to them now? I think there is a limit each year for gifts? I have some separate property (inherited) which I would like my children to have, not my husband. Many thanks...

Re: Oleographic will

In Louisiana it is called an olographic will. To be valid, it must be entirely handwritten, dated and signed.

It is probated through a document signed by two people, attsted to by two persons who can identify the handwriting.

You can make gifts valued at up to $12,000 per year to anyone, with no tax consequences.
