Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

I am resubmitting my question due to the wrong email address the first time.

I am the executor of my friends will. She left me all of her belongings including the rights to her art work. She does not owe anyone any money nor did she own anything at the time of her death. How do I secure the rights to her art work? Do I need a succession? I am in the process of cataloging the art to have it copyrighten and then transferred into my name. Do I need an attorney to do the transfer and or copyright.

Thank you.

The answer was yes you have to open a succession so that you can be awarded legal title. Then you will need an attorney to copyright, etc.

For the second time I agree with Ms. Lucas except I am not sure about copyrighting things yet.....
