Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

unclaimed mineral/oil royalties

i am trying to locate my portion of royalties owned by my deceased grandmother, billie smith--name removed--of louisiana. my 2 siblings and i were sent paperwork to be notarized last year and mine was lost. they returned theirs and received checks for their shares. i do not know the name of the oil company or the law firm that prepared the documents and my siblings have no record since they cashed their checks. can you offer any advice? (i already checked with unclaimed property in louisiana and nationally -it may have been a company based in texas.)

Re: unclaimed mineral/oil royalties

You need to contact the court for the Louisiana parish which handled your grandmother's probate (that will most likely be the same parish where she legally resided at the time of her death). Give the clerk your grandmother's name and ask them to look up the name of the firm which handled the case. Then call the firm and explain that you lost the documents they sent and to resend new copies.

Please contact me if I can be of further assistance.
