Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Maine

Property Lease

My daughter signed a two year lease on this house on 1/29/00. Her 18 month son was checked for blood lead level in May and was at level 7, the doctor requested that her son be checked again in June and his lead level rise to 8 and at that time suggested that they move. Being afraid to loose their deposit, they gave the landlord 30 days notice and did not pay July lease. Now the landlord served her with a writ to pay the lease within 7 days and threatened to ruin their credit. Need some advise on the legality of the writ and can he have this become part of their credit report. They are hoping to buy a home in 2 years. Thank you for any advice.

Re: Property Lease

You should have your daughter immediately contact

a lawyer. The landlord is liable for any lead

in the residence, and its presence is probably a

defense to an eviction claim. And the landlord

surely has insurance so your family's health

can be protected.
