Legal Question in Business Law in Maine
ending employment(contract)
We have a contract(Total of $5400) with a theater company to be directors of their kids program. We are already on the payroll(have got one month's pay) . We received a letter terminating our employment with no explanation. Is this legal? Do they owe us the full $5400?????

Re: ending employment(contract)
Your question cannot be answered without a review of the contract. It may allow for you to be terminated without cause just as if you were an "At-Will" employee as most people are in Maine, or it may give you additional rights. It should also be determined if you were fired for a discriminatory reason such as race, gender, etc. Those reasons are not permissible even if no "cause" is requied under the contract for termination.
