Legal Question in Business Law in Maine
I am interested in writing a book which would require me to take photographs of individuals and families around the U.S. Am I required to obtain some sort of a release from these people if they have verbally agreed to allow me to use their image?

You need to get a release from everyone. You can just prepare a simple release form stating that the photos will be used only in the book and its promotion. It is a good idea to make it clear that the photos will not be used in any other commercial manner. You can find sample releases online. If you plan to take the book to a publisher, they will want copies of the releases.
