Legal Question in Business Law in Maine

resale of natural products

I work at a call center, representing clients who sell a variety of natural products. We sell these products at premium prices, but as employees, they are available to us at very discounted prices. What are the legal implications of reselling these products to customers outside of the workplace?

Re: resale of natural products

I would first suggest that you review your employee handbook (if the employer has one) and any other policy materials that the employer may have provided to you from the outset of your employment to the present day. I suspect that the company has a policy forbidding employees from engaging in just this sort of activity.

If these materials do not appear to forbid these types of sales, then I think you need to consult with an attorney, who can a) Review the materials to ensure that your interpretation is a correct one and b) Offer some guidance on whether you can engage in these sorts of sales, regardless of employer policy. Again, though, the first step is a comprehensive review of employer policy.
