Legal Question in Business Law in Maine
I want to run for local office under my maiden name. I legally changed to my husband's name after we married. Can I begin using my maiden name again, or do I have to change it legally?

I suspect that there is a Maine Statute that requires the local administrator for elections to verify condidates on the ballot with their legal names. Similar to signing a document before a notary. However, the best test here is the functional one- seek out the Town Clerk and determine what representations are required on the paperwork for candidates. A change of name would need to be done in the local County Probate Court.
