Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Maine
Academic harassment/retaliation and breach of contract
I attend an online university. Our professors are supposed to respond to our assignments within 48 hours. We use discussion boards for the classroom. My professor was failing to communicate with me/or post learning info. for 4 weeks and was giving me bad grades. My contract states that this is a requirement of the professor to provide feedback and academic support. I asked her for the 4 weeks for support and she denied me. I filed a complaint with my advisor. After doing so my professor sent me emails that were verbally abusive(saying my writing was bad and that I have a mental illness). As if this was not enough she went into the gradebook and gave me 0's on assignments I had done. Please note that prior to this class I had a 4.0 GPA. Can I sue them?

Re: Academic harassment/retaliation and breach of contract
You will likely have to go through the school's complaint process first. You should keep a record of the emails the professor has sent. Right now it does not sound like something you can sue over, at least yet. You can try to get your money back and have your academic record cleared up. If the school refuses to resolve the matter, then you might be able to sue them for breach of contract.
