Legal Question in Family Law in Maine
car in my name
the problem I have is that I bought a car in my name and he wants it when we separate. I do not want to end up paying for it and I know he will not make payments on it. I am worried about my credit. How do we come to a resolution. How do I get it out of my name and into his?

You have correctly put your finger on the very issue- the loan secured by the car. Unless your husband can get his own loan or find other funds to pay it off, then you will be responsible if he does not pay. Even if he promises to pay, your bank will most likely not agree to take your name off until it is paid in full.
