Legal Question in Family Law in Maine
Confused about......
I want my future husband to adopt my son, but I can't without having the biological father sign his rights over. But the problem is that I can't find him anywhere. I know the town that he is living in, but not where.

Re: Confused about......
Before your fiance can adopt your son, the biological father's rights must be terminated. That can't happen unless you are able to effectuate actual notice to him. The Court will not terminate his rights unless he has the opportunity to object.
Your best bets are to contact his family members or friends, or you can pay a private detective to find him. If you have his name, date of birth and/or social security number, there are locator services available, although they will have to pay for such services.
You might also contact the post office for the town he is in and see if they can help you. Mailing addresses are public information.
Good luck!
