can i file a motion to modify right after a decision or do i need to use the appeal direction

It all depends on the circumstances. There would have to be a very good reason why the motion to modify is being filed so soon. You can easily imagine that unless the modification is agreed upon by the opposing party, the obvious defense is that this matter was just before the court and any reasons for a differing decision should have been presented at that time. Otherwise, depending upon the specific facts of your case, a motion to reconsider or appeal might be the correct vehicles.
