Legal Question in Family Law in Maine
Increase in child support even though child has refused a relationship for seven
In a nutshell my son has been brainwashed by his mother and stepfather. Now, stepfather has divorced mother.During that time my son refused to have a relationship with me from the age of 9-15 because he wanted the stepfather as the father.Son has refused to be a part of my family. Now that stepfather is out of picture mom wants an increase in support. I have paid all along. Since child refuses to see me do I have any kind of right to get support decreased instead of increased? Mom has never encouraged visits or kept me updated on any aspects of his life. Thanks

Re: Increase in child support even though child has refused a relationship for s
You can file a Motion for Contempt if your ex is not encouraging visitation or keeping your son from you. You can not discontinue child support because of this. That is why you should file it with the court and allow the Judge to handle it. If your ex wife wants an increase in support, she will have to file the appropriate Modification Action and prove that she is entitled to an increase. Check the law in your state for this. This refers to Florida Law.
