The answer depends upon your residency. If you have been a resident of Maine for at least six months, you may file an action in Maine. Where you are in the military, your actual "residency" can be a tricky issue. For example, I have represented military clients in their divorces here in Maine even though they were stationed in Georgia and North Carolina.

A few good benchmarks of residency are driver's licenses and where one is registered to vote. If you still have a California Driver's License, or sent in an absentee ballot to California in the recent elections, those could be indications that you are not a resident of Maine.

It really depends upon the specific facts of your situation. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your case in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me.
