Legal Question in Family Law in Maine
I have petitioned the court for back child support payments from my child's father. He claims to have retained a local lawyer but when I try to drop off paperwork regarding my case as plaintiff, they advised they don't represent him. His answer to this is that "it's just what they do". I would think they would want any pertinent data to help with thier case if they were representing him. Are they legally bound to not admit to his representation? He is also withholding his address making it impossible for me to serve him with papers. Is this legal?

If a law firm represented someone, they'd let you know about it.
You should serve him with the paperwork unless a lawyer enters his or her appearance for him. If you can't serve him directly, you need to serve him at work, or ask the court to allow you to serve him by publication. Good luck.
