Tax questions are best directed to an accountant. If you do not have one, I suggest you contact one to at least do your taxes for the year in question to be sure you comply with all tax laws, since they change frequently.

However, as a general matter, it likely depends on what the payment was for. Was it a marital property distribution pursuant to the divorce judgment? Was it alimony? Was it child support? It will make a different since alimony is generally taxable income to you while child support and property distributions are generally not, but check with an accountant.
