Re: foreign judgement

Every State has its own method of enforcing a Judgment obtained in another State. You will likely need to hire a Lawyer in S.C. to file the Judgment with the Court and the Defendant gets a chance to oppose its entry in S.C. It is rare that a Defendant actually can oppose its entry but they usually have the right to try. Then the Defendant must be subpoened into Court in S.C. to Disclose their assets and a Judge should Order how payment will be made. The Domestication and enforcement can cost up to $1,000 in legal fees, so the Maine judgment needs to be of sufficent size to justify the cost. Otherwise you can wait until the Defendant is physically back in Maine and subpoena him/her back into a Maine Court.
