Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maine

Is the owner responsible for damages?

We rent a boat slip at a marina. This winter the marina stored the boat for us - there aren't any contracts in place for either the slip or storage - during a storm, the roof on the structure where the boat was being stored, collapsed and caused major damage to our boat. Unfortunately, we don't have insurance on the boat, but what is the responsibility of the marina's owner for repairs on all damages since we let it with him for storage and safe keeping?

Re: Is the owner responsible for damages?

The Marina is a bailee, and responsibility for damage is part of what the storage fee is for. The issue mostly likely is to what extent they have insurance. I would be very suprised if they contest liability for damage. Also since it is nearly July I would be aggressive to get the claim paid.
