Legal Question in Immigration Law in Maine
Volunteer work on H4 Visa
Hi,
I attended an english speaking course in a University some time ago. During that time, I asked my professor what I can do to improve my english. She asked me to sit in the registrations department and talk to the visitors and redirect them to a specific individual who can help them.
The volunteer work I did there did not replace any body (The University never hired any body to do that work nor they wish to hire some body).
Could you please let me know if the volunteer work I did there was legal? Is it going to affect my status in US? I applied for a job and I put that volunteer experience in my resume and they are asking for a work permit during that time period. Could you please let me know what I can tell them?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Volunteer work on H4 Visa
Dear Chris: The problem with volunteer work for you would be if it is/was done with the "expectation of future remuneration". VTY, David Nachman
