Legal Question in Insurance Law in Maine
Insurance CO. made me pay them back over $13K
June 2002: Head on car accident. I was the passenger in my best friend's car, the other driver was my grandmother. She crossed the center line and hit our car head on. My Gram died, I broke my leg, and my friend was put in ICU for a week. I still suffer physical, emotional, mental side effects from the accident. After a settlement was reached my father's health insurance co. ordered me to pay them over $13,000 for my hospital bill. I was never aware of this before the settlement and I was wondering if I have any legal right to demand the amount be refunded. There are futher details that effect this, but with lack of space I can't explain.

Health insurers are not automatically entitled to reimbursement. Depending on the details, you might well have been entitled to keep the money. How did your lawyer let this slip by? You should immediately contact an attorney (not the same one if this was brought to his attention) and show him all the paperwork you have.
