Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maine

Our property?

My fiancee and I were evicted from the house we were renting because we were behind in rent. My fiancee had his work truck and construction tools still on the property and was going to remove them, but the landlord took them to his own home and refuses to let my fiancee have them back unless he pays a ''storage fee'' and the back rent, isn't this blackmail and illegal. I understand that he can take us to court for the back rent, but i don't believe that we should have to pay him anything to get our possessions back. am I wrong? What should we do?

Re: Our property?

You are not wrong. Hire an attorney + sue if they fail to respond to a Demand Letter.

Re: Our property?

The landlord has "converted" your truck and tools and must return them. If he fails to do so, he can be held liable for depriving him of the tools.

Contact an attorney and get some help right away.
