Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maine
I was in an auto accident caused by the other other driver. My vehicle is totaled. I got a copy of the police report and the other drivers license is suspended. Is there any legal recourse beyond insurance paying for the value of my vehicle?

If you are asking whether the driver (who hit you) will be charged with a crime, the answer is yes. It is against the law...a misdemeanor crime...to drive with a suspended license. If they repeat this offense, it may be a felony. Depending on why their license was suspended, they may be required to do jail time. If you're asking if you have any recourse beyond getting money for your vehicle, the answer depends on whether you or any of your passengers were injured in the collision. Injuries would lead to additional compensation. I'd be happy to discuss a claim for any bodily injury. Hopefully, any injured party has sought the necessary medical care. Thank you for your inquiry.
