Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maine
Defromation of Character (written
If I have a written statement from a past employer that says I lied to a group of people which is not true. Is this worth taking to a lawyer. The situation does involve a loss of my job. Would it be wise to wait for the unemployement hearing outcome and also get a copy of that transcript?

If you can prove that he lied, then you have a case against the past employer. Once you prove that, the next question is what are your damages? Did you find another job? Are you earning more or less income? It would be particularly useful in a defamation case if the past employer acknowledged at the unemployment hearing that he did not make a truthful statement or that he lacked sufficient basis for saying what he did in the statement. Please feel free to call me to discuss this. Thank you for your inquiry.
